If you mean opposite the "current colour vs. last used" circle, I'm all for
it. Wouldn't use any extra space that way.

I always thought not matching the rest of the UI seemed a little off; the
empty space is usually the same colour as the rest of the window background
(for example, in gimp).
That brings up a question I have, though: why must there be a large space at
all? The harmonies previews (or the gradient ring if harmonies are disabled)
could go all the way to the middle box, with just a small border of 1-2px.
I'm not sure I'm explaining that well, so I tossed together a quick example
of what I mean for both the dropper and the wheel and am attaching it for
clarity.
