Follow-up Comment #3, bug #18421 (project mypaint):
Cloning the active document tiledict structure is cheap and safe, right?
tiledsurface.Surface.save_snapshot() shows how.
Breaking into pixbufsurface.Surface.render_as_pixbuf to break up and slow
down the background saves, not so easy. Though we half do something like it
already in passing in a GTK event eater to make the UI not freeze during
saving.
What's python for call/cc again...? :D Might have to think up fancy ways of
turning this thing inside-out with yields.
