Follow-up Comment #2, bug #18750 (project mypaint):

I don't see cycling all 3 blend modes as being useful or comprehensible.
Toggling one particular mode would be better.

--Probably. They're important/frequently used enough to merit their own
dedicated spot on the toolbar. I thought being able to right click (for
example) to quickly switch from normal to alpha lock to eraser might be
useful. It goes well with the immediate feedback of the brush outline changing
too. Seemed like the function would be a good fit there. Though just switching
between normal and alpha lock is good too. Besides, you just added undo/redo
which seems like an odd thing to use up the pen buttons for. I'm just trying
to toss in a few suggestions along to same lines.

Scroll wheel should zoom by default. This is what I suspect users expect, so
the default should remain. No reason not to make it bindable to things that
are useful on scroll though. For me, scroll wheel is the same thing as the
touchring on my little Wacom MTE-450a.

--My mouse wheel doesn't do anything by default, and I had to use xsetwacom
to get any use out of my tablet's touch ring. I thought they were both
unsupported... Right now I have my touch ring mapped to the brush size
(keyboard) keys to easily adjust it on the fly.

Any more actions?

--Can't think of anything else that might be useful.

I think 3 (or - help! - 7) extra lines is too much for the dialog as it
stands, so we either need to rethink the space, or add a new tab.

--Having the mouse/pen wheel on it's own tab isn't a bad idea I guess. If you
decide to keep the pen button and wheel functions completely separate, having
them split between tabs is a good way to make the distinction clear without
any further explanation. [Pen Input]_[Buttons]_[Wheel]_[Saving]_[View]

Dabs-per-second is really obscure, and should not be made bindable. Not going
to implement that. Perhaps you should be using dabs per actual brush radius
instead, for anything other than a simulated airbrush or spraycan? You didn't
supply a use case, so I'm guessing here ☺

--Maybe it's bad practice to make suggestions that you don't have any
personal stake in, so sorry if it is; but I don't use my mouse for painting or
have an airbrush pen. I just have a normal pen with a two-button rocker on the
side. So the wheel functions wouldn't be of any use to me (unless one could
assign them to buttons 2 and 3 as well). I was just trying to think ahead some
to what other users might need in the future. You're right though, I was
thinking about how you can control the spray flow on a real airbrush gun when
I suggested dabs per second. It's very unusal, but an airbrush artist might
appreciate having a familiar tool if they used MyPaint. Controlling an
airbrush using physical pressure might feel weird to them. Again, I don't need
the function, just playing devil's advocate. Of course, any airbrush artist
with expensive specialty pens would probably be used to not having a flow rate
wheel...well, assuming they didn't assign flow rate to the rocker that is.

--I wonder...maybe being able to optionally set a button so that it's
function changes with each brush... A "Brush's Choice" option. Then, one could
have radius assigned to their buttons with a penbrush, dabs per second on the
airbrush, and opacity on the smudge brush. All without ever opening a menu.
Ah, but that's way too much work.

--I've always been of the opinion that the more options you have, the better.
Though more options means more work. It's your program, not mine. I don't do
any coding on it, and can bear none of the extra weight of bug fixing a dozen
new features. All I do is give my thoughts and occasionally edit the wiki. So
do what you think is best. Don't mind me. I'll be here to offer suggestions
until someone tells me to stop. :)

--(Though I do think adding the brush size, opacity, and mouse wheel
functions would be immediately helpful to more than a few people.)
