Follow-up Comment #5, bug #18450 (project mypaint):
I figured out what it was. Changing the base "Lock Alpha" brush setting to
1.00 forces the blend mode to switch for all brushes. So you have to use the
pressure for the Lock Alpha brush setting if you want the brush to be locked
by default without changing the overall blend mode. I can upload a short clip
demonstrating if I need to, but I think this bug report can be closed as it
doesn't seem to be an actual bug, just a quirk like Opacity Multiply.
