Details:

I tried importing some brushes I made in the development version of mypaint of
ubuntu into an older version(april development) version of mypaint in
windows.
I already had half of the brushes there, and as far as I know, I didn't use
anything that was unknown to the old version of mypaint, because there hasn't
been setting changes since then.

All brushes I made new in the ubuntu version didn't come out right, rather,
they reverted to some sort of 'default'. Of the brushes that were already in
the windows version, some of them also reverted to that same default, even
though I hadn't changed them in ubuntu.

In the newer git version(the one that lags) I found my brushes were working
properly(even though lagging).

Because IIRC there was some change to the brush engine, this isn't too
surprising. However, I was thinking, maybe it's an idea to let mypaint warn
the user when the brush package was made in a newer version of mypaint?
Ideally, backwards compatibility would be liked for brushes that don't use
'new' effects, but the warning would be nice too.
