Follow-up Comment #2:

Another weirdness: the motion-notify events are not delivered if they occur
outside the popup window the very first time the window is shown in response
to a pointer event.  This means that, unless you cross the square popup
window, you only get the initial pick; and nothing useful can be picked at all
when dragging around on that first launch of it.

First time behaviour as it relates to this bug depends on whether the pointer
entered the popup window during the drag, and where the button was released:

* inside the popup: lockup happens
* outside the popup: no lockup
* outside the popup, having entered it once: no lockup

Second and subsequent picks deliver motion-notify events as you'd expect for
the grab. However the lockup always happens too.

(All the above tested with the stylus)
