I understand you and agree that we should have better ways of finding and
adding backgrounds. We have a bug for that here: https://gna.org/bugs/?17844
I think solving that is a much better solution that to handle the case of the
pre-installed backgrounds gracefully. So I am closing this bug in favor of
that one.
Please do comment on it to describe how you would like background management
to work!
