Hi,

I was experimenting on my side to try to create a "default brush kit" to Mypaint and use group to paint, here is a screenshot of one of my experimental test :
http://img850.imageshack.us/img850/7729/screenshotnet.jpg
But it's finally harder to find a brush, and pressing 'shift' to display multi groups is still something for advanced users. So it's not simple ( the brush group change of position , that make also harder to find back a brush ). So, I decide to leave this
way.

So, keeping artist group is something easier ( as in 8.0, 9.0 and actual Git ; 'Deevad' 'Ramón' , 'Tanda' ).
And surely a good choice for 1.0.

- Reduce amount of brushes in deevad set
I have an issue with reducing mine, because I use them a lot into tutorials and I thought lastly it's a bit weird to have always a "official brush-kit" (ex: V4 on my blog ) ; and a almost similar 'lite' one on Mypaint ( a reduced V4.1 ). Not a big step between my 43 brushes and the 35 limits. I would better understand for a reduction from 100 to 50 :) or if brush file weight were an issue.

What I propose :
erase my 'deevad' brush kit from Mypaint 1.0 , and replace it by a kit 'default' I will do especially (coming 'soon soon soon' if you are ok ) , inspired from my own Brush kit but in the continuity of the "V3.1 lite" I did for 0.9 series ; with labels, 100% viewport , and a little number of them.

Does it sound good to you ?

Btw , encouragement for the 1.0 ;
- bug #15136: implement blending modes
If we want to stick to the time frame that you have set, I would say you'd
have to get this into git almost immediately. Otherwise we might not have
the chance to react to feedback from git users.

I use here the 'blending mode' branch from time to time on my comics ; cool powerfull dodge and multiply mode.
 As a tester , I feel :
- a 'color' and 'overlay' would be a plus.
- a fix for the "merge down" layers to merge with the blending mode.

As I mentioned on IRC the other day, I would like it if we had MyPaint
1.0 out before/at LGM, or at least a RC/beta.
LGM starts on 10th of May, so that basically gives us 5.5 weeks or 40 days.
Well, I'd say, "not impossible" :-)

I'd personally prefer to give it another month or two. I don't see a big
point in matching release dates with events, but on the other hand this
might a good way to increase our relatively slow release pace.

Here is what I think needs or should be fixed before release. Please
add items if you have any.

Blockers (new bugs or regressions):
Agree with your list. And any regression that might appear on the
bugtracker.

Should-be-fixed:
Yes, those are the ones to get the 1.0 "feeling", not just the label :-)
Agree, and there are probably a few more on the bugtracker.

In addition, work on the presets:
- Reduce amount of brushes in deevad set
- Ensure the brushes praised often in online discussion are included
by default (at least Ico_Crazy_Line sould really be included again)
- Remove some of the old low-res background patterns (which?)

Very-nice-to-have:

Do you guys think we can and should do this in the timespan we have?
Yes we can, but we'll probably have to take a few shortcuts. If you want to
push this, it's okay with me.
