We really do appreciate you opening this ticket to help improve
Mythbuntu, but it needs to be closed for a number of reasons. The
biggest one is that the MythTV developers have turned their efforts to newer
versions and and are no longer fixing bugs on this version of MythTV.
Particularly this is two versions old, and both LIRC and the installer
have improved significantly. Can you please let us know if these
problems persist on the newer version?

Bug description:
Boot Mythbuntu 8.10 CD and attempt to run LiveCD session connected to master
backend. If IR remote is set to "Hauppauge TV card," session fails and I am
returned to XFCE desktop.
If I boot CD and try to install Mythbuntu (either from splash main menu or XFCE
desktop) with the same parameter for IR remote, it also fails.
If I install Mythbuntu with no IR selected, it succeeds and then after
rebooting (from HD) and selecting IR remote as "Hauppauge TV card" from MCC
(and then reboot again) remote works.
