I don't like the filter aspect of the recording group. It's a WAF thing. By filtering to a recgroup it would make it more difficult for her/kids to get back to the view they are expecting to see if I forget to change it back. Ultimately I think it'd be nice to have a title/cateogry/recgroup option for the screen that could be toggled so you can either view shows by title, category, or recording group where the title list is now. Such a thing would be much more involved so this is my compromise to myself for now :)
If you are suggesting a top level set of entries in the tree view to "sort by title", "sort by date", "sort by category", etc then this is also something what has been on my todo list for a while now, especially in the tv screen and music module.
However, I agree with Chris, couldn't you look to improve the view of the rec groups rather than adding yet another category type?
I think that should accomplish my goal and be more functional across the board. I noticed in the settings today there is a "save on exit" option that i had checked which was causing my dislike of the feature as it relates to the wife and kids.
