My email from March 25 is inserted below. It was the timeout you mention. I didn't get any response to that email but I am more relieved now than I was 30 minutes ago. This is obviously a coding issue and not my hardware :P
FWIW, It happened on the 25 March and on the 2nd April. A simply restart of the BE was all that was required once I realised the recording wasn't going to work.

Email from March 25:
For some reason my DVB#0 card couldn't tune to channel 10 tonight. It
had been recording stuff earlier in the day just fine but for some
reason it couldn't record Idol tonight. When I went to watch live TV,
the second card tuned straight to channel 10, no probs.
After playing with the ariel feeds, and still being unable to get it
working, I restarted mythbackend and both cards are working dandy now.
The errors I recieved in the log file were just what I expected...

I certainly am, as is a friend of mine with a more or less identical
box to me. Only once every week or two, but annoying when it happens.

I you get that "Timeout Getting PMT" message in the backend log then
it is probably the same problem.
> All I did was restart mythbackend and the card would then tune fine.
Yup. Even the next recording will probably be OK but it won't try to
retune and restart an active recording that failed to tune unless you
restart the backend.

I have two VisionPlus cards and my friend that has the same problem
has one VisionPlus and one Avermedia.
This issue only exists in the new DVB code so 0.16 will have been
fine as the PIDs were hardwired and it didn't have to look for
the PMT to get them.
