And on that note, I recognize that just putting progstart and progend
into the existing script (along with the basename changes I posted
before) may be more appropriate since it will work for most cases
(assuming users properly rename their files with the old filename
format and don't have any .nuv files with the new format/don't mind
saying no to prompts for the new nuv files) and the script is not used
that often, anyway. (Or, we can change the glob to *.myth--so it
doesn't match existing files and still have them use the old filename
format.) The changes I'm proposing would take quite a bit more time
than the simple fix, but since the script is not used that often, they
may not be worthwhile.

Yes I think that is the best solution for right now.
I'll save this thread and when I get some time will come back to it and
look into what would be needed to add some of the features we've
discussed. Actually, since you obviously do some perl programming
yourself, you might look through mythrename.pl and use the parts of it
that do the user interface to update rebuilddatabase.pl. You could
probably add the features you want fairly easily.
For right now, with this being an issue of rather minor importance, it
is probably best not to put too much more time into changing the script,
but just get it working so that others can use it.
Carl.
