In my view, waiting a month or two for the liveTV rewrite before updating from svn is no big deal.  Perhaps we lose some user testing on other changes (eg, some dvb stuff) during this period, but it is only a few weeks, not a year or anything like that.  So I don't see much of a point to creating a branch for things like this.

One concern I do have is that the eventual upgrade for non-svn users from 0.18 (or 0.18.1) to 0.19 is going to be somewhat painful for some (maybe a lot) of people.  0.18, for example, works reasonably well with even old ivtv drivers (eg, even 0.1.9), whereas I'm not sure that current svn (and therefore the eventual 0.19) will.  So with pent-up interest in 0.19 and a lot of people needing to upgrade more than just mythtv, I suspect we'll see a lot of problem reports on the users list that don't have much to do with mythtv itself when it finally gets released as stable...
