Afaik all modern pc's have some power in the motherboard whenever the power supply is plugged in, so while this may reduce damage from power surges I kinda doubt it would prevent anything significant. For that you'd probably have to unplug it from everything.. As an additional note on surges and such remember that electricity needs a path to flow which is why its useful to have everything, including any phone wires, cable tv wires, grounded at one point or as near to that as practical. That way if a surge comes in on one it can leave on the general ground and hopefully never go through the equipment.I'd like to be able to shut down the box on demand and have the auto wakeup programmed to make the next recording. (E.g., I got home after Myth woke itself, I updated commercial flagging, and now there's an electrical storm coming and I want to turn everything off.)
The only 100% failsafe against electrical surges/lightning on a power line that I can think of would be to have a large motor turn a large generator with a heavy flywheel to prevent quick changes in speed. It would also help if at least part of the physical connection was non conductive. Then again almost no one needs that level of isolation. A good UPS/surge protector usually does the job.
I've figured out how to look in the mysql "record" table to find a scheduled program after the current time, but I don't see where to figure in exceptions (e.g., program already recorded, or manually set not to record). Where do I look for this information?
