If you're comfortable w/ the driver support for the PVR500, i'd say do
it.  Just note the pvr250 has been around a lot longer, and support
for it is pretty solid in myth.  I'm not sure what the latest ivtv
drivers look like concerning the pvr500, but you may have to do more
troubleshooting.

As far as remotes, the PVR250 remote is mediocore IMO.  I'd suggest
getting a radioshack 15-2116 remote.  It'll run you about $30-$40, but
is wonderful and well built. There's even a guide on how to get it
