Careful of the use of "component" it generally refers to something else.

jacks like on most audio cards (not sure of the terminology on these).
The card I've bought has the RCA connectors. Are these even used?

Only if you are capturing from a set top box.

I'm
under the impression that this would be for audio in, which doesn't
matter because it should be muxed with the video on the coax, right?

Correct. If you are using the tuner input (coax), you won't be using any of the audio/video inputs.

Also, some of the PVR250s on ebay are listed as 'Roslyn' models. How can
I be sure that the card that I'm looking for is NOT a Roslyn if it is
not in the description?

You will have to ask/trust the seller. The large MPEG encoder chip should say something like iTVC15 or iTVC16. If it is cx2388 or something like that it is probably a Roslyn or Blackbird board. There is some support for newer models, but it is best to just go with what we know works.

I'll eventually want to run an XBox frontend also. From what I've read
so far I need a version 1.4 or older. There are a few on ebay for a good
price, but if the version is not listed, how do I ask the seller to
verify? Is the version number on a sticker with a serial number or
something similar?

There is no version number. You can sort of tell by the serial number except near the date where the version changes. It seems there is some mixture. I think my 1.4 is from Sep 2003. Anyway there is a web site on xbox-linux.org that can give you pointers on checking the xbox version.

Finally, while I don't yet have an HDTV, I eventually will. So, I'm
going to want a PCHDTV HD3000 before June (my wife is pushing me pretty
hard to do this, believe it or not). I have not seen many of these on
ebay. Where is the best place to find one?

http://pchdtv.com is the only place. I've never seen them on eBay, but I don't check every day. Your other option is to buy an Air2PC ATSC card from http://cyberestore.com or http://mythic.tv . You will probably want to wait for MythTV 0.17 for Air2PC support. A lot of people have been buying them lately. They don't have the audio/video inputs like the HD3000 has, but the driver for *unencrypted* QAM is already done for the Air2PC (this is for digital cable). The HD3000 isn't there yet, but they are working on it from what I hear.
