Not sure what you mean here.  I'm using TV out with a PVR-350.
I didn't think I had a choice about the resolution.

Again, not sure what you mean.  The X server doesn't have a set font
size.  I have fonts of all sizes installed, including scalable fonts,
and I've tried adjusting the font size myth uses by change the setting
in one of the Setup menus.

Yes, that is what is happening.

I've tried reducing the font size, but it didn't make a difference.
My screen size is limited by the fact that there is overscan.  But I
don't see all of the help info even without adjusting for the
overscan.

Using 0.16.
