I am planning on building a mythtv box shortly, and have been reading a bit on the net, and am looking for recommendations on some of the hardware I should put into the box.
I found a hauppage wintv pvr-250 card, which I think is the basis of the box, but I'm not sure what sort of a regular video card I should put in. I would prefer an nvidia card, but I'm not sure how high of a model I should get. An FX-5900 is reasonable here in Canada. Are there any other users in Canada that have their myth box hooked up to a Bell Expressvu satellite? I was wondering how well this works together. What I've read is that there is an IR transmitter that will change channels on the satellite to get the different shows to record. I plan on using Fedora for this project, and I found a great fedora mythtvology site that has an awesome howto, but I was wondering since I have no hardware yet, that what I should get to begin. I have an old PIII 866 with 512M of ram sitting in a corner at my office that I could start with as a practise machine, while I get comfortable with getting a system online. Thanks. -=/>Thom
