I've gotten smooth playback of some sample HD clips with an Athlon XP 2400.
Last time I checked, though, OSD and scanning forward/backward through the
video didn't work too well with XvMC, so watching a show would be a
semi-cumbersome affair of disabling XvMC, editing ads out, reenabling XvMC,
and letting the show play without interruption (pause usually works).

Maybe there are fixes coming tonight in 0.17 that will deal with these
shortcomings. (The possibility of capturing HD video from a FireWire-
equipped cable box is intriguing. They mention channel-changing problems,
but an IR blaster should work.)
