Hello,

I got a surprise today because I hardly had any trouble finally getting ATI TV Out to work.

I have my MythTV box hooked up through a KVM and not really using the remote only. I thought it would be neat to do some work on the other computer while watching a NTSC monitor connected to the S Video port of the 9200 card. The TV Monitor is to the right of the computer display used by the MythTV box and one of my main computers.

It was confusing reading the archives and some of the websites about TV Out. I finally went to the ATI site and noticed they updated their binary driver in January 2005 and it supports TV Out and Xorg Version 6.8.

I am using Xorg Version 6.8.1 with a SuSE 9.2 Pro distribution. The video card is a plain old 9200 AGP card (RV280) with composite and S-Video out. I use a PVR-250 for video capture.

I downloaded the file from the ATI site. I already have the required packages installed from compiling IVTV and MythTV.

The ATI setup script used the name "keyboard" for the keyboard driver instead of "kbd" so it did not work off the bat. I also edited the config file to put back some of the settings of the old configuration file. On the first run of Xorg the desktop was too big for the screen and scrolled. This was corrected when I went through the normal xdm login after fixing the X86Config.

I went with the Dual Head option with the primary display as 1024x768 and the S-Video Out as 800x600. Both are 24 Bit. When I log in I get separate desktops on both screens and if I move the mouse far enough right it disappears from the main screen and goes to S-Video Out screen. It is neat as I can now have mythfrontend running on the S-Video Out Desktop and do other things on the computer monitor desktop. Doing computer stuff on the S-Video Out side shows the poor video quality of 800x600 interlaced but when playing a video or Myth TV menus it looks great.

I do notice that if I run mplayer on the PC Monitor output it tries to run on the TV Out desktop as well. Also if a icon cursor is displayed on the PC Monitor output it will also display on the TV Output as well. Sometimes the Desktop toolbar will come up on both outputs going over the MythTV display. Otherwise it is not too bad.

I am planing on redoing my whole A/V setup and put the MythTV box off in the corner. I still want a KDM hookup so I can do maintenance on the box.
