Kevin,

It isn't likely the frontend process crashing your computer but rather a hardware driver of some kind. You may want to run mythfrontend from a terminal window with full verbose debugging messages (-v all) and pipe the output to a file so you can see maybe what is happening. Also the /var/log/messages from the system should hold the kernel panic information...

Yeah that's what I'm thinking, there's a hardware problem but the strange thing is that I haven't changed anything since the last time I used mythtv.... faulty memory springs to mind, but faulty memory generally spit out random errors not exactly the same error every time - crashing as soon as I press "Enter" to playback a recording.

Anyway I ran "mythfrontend -v all > log2" but all I got was:

2005-02-14 22:30:58 mythfrontend version: 0.16.20040906-1 www.mythtv.org
2005-02-14 22:30:58 Enabled verbose msgs :all
2005-02-14 22:30:58 Registering Internal as a media playback plugin.
log2 (END)

Also nothing in /var/log/messages

Hmmm.

Any ideas what I should do now?

Thanks again for your help!

Cheers - Piers
