Would try that later. I need to go into TS mod to watch channels 9 HD (1080i) and 10HD(not sure, but probably also 1080i). Still not sure why.
Nope, remember to play 1080i bobbed to 60 frames/second, you are
pushing 500 megabytes/second of data into the card, on top of
decoding it. That takes a good chunk of your CPU. Fast AGP is a
must for that reason. And other stuff's going on.
sysstat usually.
Thanks.
Well, you have us baffled. A 2.6ghz system, no xvmc and 80% idle time
for playing HDTV? I have never seen anybody report anything nearly that
And I also use bob deint.
good. I mean my hyperthreaded P4-3ghz is not nearly that good, thoughIf not wrong, mine is the northwood core.. Probably the older series are better?
it is with XVMC.
Not sure if Mandrake is faster though. I also compiled linux kernel instead of the stock one. I find that compiling my own kernel makes an overall faster system? Yes I do have dual channel RAM.. Not sure if that would make the system faster, it transfer data twice per cycle, which gotta be good for memory tasks? (actually I have no idea how myth works internally). I would assume with DDR your CPU would work harder as there's less bottlenecks.... :)
Top can be misleading with HT. But my machine is also HT and it's only 60% idle, not 80%. And it's faster. Do you have dual channel RAM? Can that be making this big a difference? Can your video card be that much faster? Could Mandrake be doing much better than FC3?
As for video card, not sure if FX5600 is out there anymore. Apparantly it's a lousy chip? Are you using Nvidia's own X driver?
Yes, I compiled it. Not much different than the RPMs though. I suspectTry this and see if it is better (it may not even compile).. i modified config.mak to use "-O2 -mcpu=pentium4 -march=pentium4 -mtune=pentium4", and in settings.pro, I have "-O3 -mcpu=pentium4 -mtune=pentium -march=pentium4".... See if that makes a difference.. Though I doubt it will..
on Windows you are getting the built in mpeg decoding in the graphics
card.
Regards.
