There is now a chicken-and-egg problem with the configuration of DVB
channels - what is the correct procedure for creating them? - let
mythfilldatabase create them (and have no SIDs) or let the channel

Fill the database with the channel scan, and set the xmltvids manually.

Which means dumping all of your existing channel configuration to do the upgrade (gahh!) - yes this is what I have had to do. How un-friendly is that! You also have to already know what the XMLTV IDs are - something that any new user would be unlikely to know (and is very hard to get unless you know how to trawl through the XML files, have intimate knowledge of the XMLTV grabber you're using, or are upgrading). I think it's pretty clear that this aspect of 0.17 hasn't been thought through properly - the old system was far more reliable (if tedious at first)!

What's worse though is that conditional access seems to be broken (using
Irdeto 2 Foxtel Australia on a Hauppauge Nexus S full-function card,
genuine smart card)

I've got an Nexus-s with cam working just fine, but I'm based in Norway.

I think it is something to do with the multiplex configuration - mythsetup is broken in that you cannot edit the multiplexes in the database once they are defined, and when you do the full channel scan it seems to get a lot of the multiplex data wrong. Even the FTA DVB-S channels were not working properly (broken TSs being saved) until I manually fiddled with the database to correct the errors in the multiplex table that it created - and even then the multiplex table is way out of whack; it created a whole set of vertical polarisation transports that cannot be received (the LNB is fixed in horizontal here). Creating a new multiplex from the advanced button is also broken (you can create a multiplex but you never get the opportunity of specifying anything except "DVB" - no frequency or other config!)

The DVB-T scanner is also broken when you have marginal reception - one frequency here is not strong enough to maintain a lock, and when being scanned mythsetup enters an endless loop waiting for a lock that it will never get for more than a few seconds.

After tearing my hair out for a full day I'm unfortunately going back to the cave to lick the wounds and restore my 0.16 config (another gahhh - why does the 0.17 upgrade delete all the records from dvb_channel and dvb_pids????)

A warning to all other DVB users - backup your mythconverg database before attempting a 0.17 upgrade! (of course that's obvious anyway).
