After getting fed up with the noise that my server was making, I drilled a hole in our living room floor and put the MythTV server in the basement. I run it all from the living room above the basement (keyboard, mouse, monitor, TV, USB 2.0 DVD/CD, Wingman wireless joystick). I ordered extra long cables from http://www.cablesforless.com/. It turned out to be FAR cheaper and much more effective than trying to silence the PC with new fans/heat sinks/HD dampening systems, etc. I can't hear a peep...
