This is incorrect. My box definately outputs HD streams for the HD channels, both 720p and 1080i depending on the station.


I could be wrong, but I believe this is part of the broadcast flag proceeding. If so, expect it to be downgraded post implementation of the BF.

This is at least partially wrong. The FCC requires that any 'unencrypted broadcast television' (which they define as any channel that you could also receive free-to-air in your locale) must be made available with no 'encoding' (which they define as any encryption or changes to the resolution).


So, any local broadcast HD stations must be available in HD via firewire from your cable box. Any other stations are fair game for encrypting and/or down-res to 480p.
