Sure. Heres my setup.
Hardware: MSI K7N2GM-L Mobo, XP2100+, 768 RAM, PNY Nvidia 5700 LE
outputting to Audio Authority 9A60 to connect to a Mitsubishi WS55413
HDTV, 1 air2pc, 1 pcHDTV3k, 1 PVR-250
Software: FC2 based, custom kernel with DVB support for air2pc and
pchdtv3k, ivtv from cks site, followed instructions from Angel Lis site
to compile new kernel, compiled from CVS of 2/14/05.
I am using libmepg2 with no skips, bumps, audio drop outs, no synch
issues. Clear playback during lasts nights 3 episodes of Law and Order
on NBC. Did nothing extra during compile of CVS for libmpeg2 support.
No tweaks, no extra build steps. Works fine for me out of the box with
libmpeg2.
Based on what I have seen out of my Athlon 3000 I would not have expected
a 2100 to be able to pull it off.
At first, I didnt think it would either, figd Id try for the the hell of
it. When I saw a picture in Live TV, and it was clear, and audio was
working as well, I about crap my pants.
You don't indicate, are you running your TV at 1080i or at 720p here?
The program on nbc would be 1080i presumably.
Yes, I shouldve said, thought about that after I sent the last email.
It is 1080i, my TV cant do 720p, so I watch all my shows in 1080i.
Is the higher end video card really making that much of a difference
here. Curious how many fps mythcommflag can get while playing and not
playing video on your system.
This is a remote frontend. I use my backend, on a seperate machine, to
do all comm flagging, just so I wont have to worry about any dropped
frames, slow motion, etc while watching HDTV. I know this isnt an
option for everyone, once again, shouldve said so.
And no xmvc I presume?
No, Im not currently using XvMC, didnt even compile support for it in.
Since you cant use libmpeg2 and XvMC together, and I am getting such
good results with libmpeg2 and theres no trade off with a B&W OSD as
there is in XvMC, Im happy with libmpeg2.
I am seeing 5700s now down to as low as $75 on froogle, but I have
avoided them due to the tiny fan on board.
I have this in an Antec Aria case, so I dont really hear much out of the
whole machine. How much RAM are people using in their machines? Someone
in IRC was using a XP2400 and had only 256MB RAM, he wasnt getting as
good results as I am, so that may be one thing to look at as well. One
last point, I do run mythfrontend as suid (chmod a+s mythfrontend).
