So, quit bitching and just use cvs.
Which brings up a question.
Why even HAVE releases like 0.17 if there is no
attempt to make them "stable" for those who wish to
use their MythTv boxes like an appliance? Projects
ordinarily try to make a stable release for those who
don't want to be on the bleeding edge of progress. If
the answer is always "use CVS" then why is there a
release at all?
All a release is is a snapshot of cvs at the time of the release. Nothing
more. I make no guarantees as to its stability. I certainly don't consider
this particular issue to be a major bug or anything which would make me
consider going back and spending several hours putting out a new release just
to fix it.
This is not a good approach. A release should be a more heavily tested
and stabilized package than the usual snapshots. It should be maintained
thereafter for stability, in parallel with real development on the mainline.
It takes some planning and a lot of strong will for a developer to
stop working on new ideas and just test and fix. I know this first
hand. The benefit is building a happy user base, and having nobody
bother you about cvs failing because only "real developers" use
it - everyone else finds the GA release most suitable.
