Hi: For a given resolution, only a certain range of bitrates makes any sense!!
According to the article which is about DVDs but applies to PVR-x50 cards too http://www.mediachance.com/dvdlab/tutorial/bitrate.html For 352x480 MPEG-2 we will get: Min: 2500-2800, Average: 3300, Max: 4200 For 720x480 MPEG-2 we will get: Min: 4800-5800, Average: 6400, Max: 8000 Note: at 352x480, going past a bitrate of 4200 will not make it look any better but will make a bigger file.
