If bothe shgows recorded then I'd say you're home and hosed. FYI, I
have 2 BT8x8 cards but the theory should be the same. Here's the
relevant bit from my modprobe.conf:
#----bttv----#
alias char-major-81 videodev
alias char-major-81-0 bttv
alias char-major-81-1 bttv
options bttv card=55,37 radio=0 tuner=0,28 chroma_agc=1 combfilter=2
 
You can check whether both cards are working by pressing Y on the
keyboard which will switch between tuners.

Please find my start/stop script attached which gets called from the
remote without any parameters. If the F/E is running it will kill it,
if not it wil start it.
