In the settings.pro file it says to not comment out the OSS stuff unless

is something else different in my environment, or is that OSS comment in
settings.pro incorrect?

Weird. Yes, you should leave OSS uncommented. It doesn't hurt anything and if you ever want to go back to OSS you will have that option. I have run with OSS uncommented and ALSA uncommented for at least a year (since I have been using ALSA actually) and haven't had a problem.

Are you sure you are doing a 'qmake mythtv.pro' after changing the comment? Is this with CVS or 0.17? If CVS when did you last update? If none of this works, have you tried a make clean? If you really want to get severe, do a 'make distclean' then rerun configure and qmake mythtv.pro.
