The hauppauge remote will work with mplayer, but consider using xine.
Mplayer does not support menus, and xine does.

Hi all,
long time reader first time writer!
I built my myth box about a month ago now, and generally, had lots of success.
I'm not as good with Linux as I should be so it has been a little struggle at
times.
The box is an Athlon XP2200, 512Mb RAM, PVR-250, FX5200, 250Gb ATA133. I built
the box using KnoppMyth so it's Debian and Gnome.
This mailing list was a great resource for helping me sort out all the little
niggles I had to begin with (NVidia drivers for a start!).
However, there are two issues that I can't find and answer for.
1. xvattr is a great tool for getting rid of my blue bars -
but how do I get it to start everytime gdm does? It's a pain having to quit out of mythfrontend,
start an xterm and then re-start the front end each time I need to re-boot the box - especially since I want to get rid of my keyboard!
I can't tell you how much googling I've done for this one!! There's plenty of pages to tell me what syntax to use with xvattr to make it display my mythfrontend up-side down, double bright with a cherry on top but nothing to tell me how to 'save the changes'.
2. DVDs: I ditched my old DVD player in favor of the DVD-ROM in my myth box but
I have one or two problems
Take my collection of James Bond Movies:
Goldfinger: Pop the DVD in, hit 'Play DVD' and
we're off no problem at all
The world is not enough: Same procedure but I get the 'MGM Lion' and
then it goes back to the optical disk menu as if the movie was over
Tomorrow never dies: Click Play DVD and the screen goes black for half a
second, brief read of the disk then drops back to the optical disk menu
Once the movie is playing everything works well.
I'm in the UK by the way.
In setup, the command I'm using to play DVDs is "mplayer dvd:// -fs -zoom"
(i.e. no track specified). Why does this work for most but not others?
Is there any menu support with mplayer? Will it work with my Hauppage remote?
Thanks for reading!
Stu
