I had a backend with a Matrox Marvel on a P2 333 for about half a year. No problems. Of course I was recording at a pretty low quality and was not able to do live tv. For a while it was also my frontend. With hardware encoding, it really takes very litter CPU to record. For my current settings, my frontend ( a Celeron 433 just barely keeps up).
