I used this site:

http://washington.kelkoo.net/epia/

but this one seems to contain a lot of information as well:

http://www.kingcot.eclipse.co.uk/unichrome/fc3/

Cheers,

PS: Maybe somebody could put these links in the docs somewhere?

Does anybody know how to enable XvMC support in verision 0.17? Or is it
something that is enabled automatically if it's available?

If you installed via apt-get or yum, you'll have to compile your own.

If you compiled your own, make sure you uncommented the XvMC sections
in settings.pro

Damn, was afraid of that ;-)

Do you know if it is a technical "impossibility" that this isn't an
option that can be turned on/off or has it just not been implemented?

Thing is that both backend and frontend are completely installed using
apt/yum packages (yes, even a patched xorg with via dri/xvmc support for
my Epia M10000) so making it possible to get even this option "packaged"
would be great.
