I'm gonna have to check out those patches for XvMC from the dev list... I just tried it for the first time last night and holy cow.  Using it on PBS-HD saved me about 30% cpu!

I get around 70% viewing HD with XV
I get around 42% viewing same channel with XvMC

It is, however, unpatched, very unstable.  I was able to use it without and problems if I didn't pause it or rewing/fast forward.  I was in the process of changing the channel when I hit 4 numbers instead of the three number limit, it actually displayed 4 numbers in the corner of the screen then my system hard locked.  Not even the three fingered salute could bring it back!  Anyway, that's a huge load off the processor.
