I've decide to live with 3.3.4 for now and just use ctrl-enter on the
menus. I experienced some problems with kde after trying to
downgrade.

I actually found out the problem was the RenderAccel was set to 1 in my
xorg.conf. That was preventing the menus from coming up in mythtvsetup
and mythfrontend.
