I'm having trouble with my console vanishing after X quits when I exit the frontend. I'm running a 2.4.31 kernel patched with the bootsplash patches. The system is still fine, but I notice the /proc/ splash entry is no longer listed. Has anyone run across this problem before? If so, did you find a solution?

If you don't have an NVIDIA card, ignore...

If you're using the NVIDIA proprietary drivers, the use of bootsplash is not supported. NVIDIA doesn't provide a framebuffer driver for use with the console, and their X driver assumes there is no framebuffer running on the card. You would probably get exactly the behavior you describe if you tried using bootsplash and NVIDIA's drivers...

I disagree

I am using a framebuffer with nvidia's drivers on my gentoo machine. I am using gensplash (http://dev.gentoo.org/~spock/projects/gensplash/) to provide the splash image.

My kernel boot line is:

kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.11-gentoo-r6-chris-5 root=/dev/hda2 video=vesafb:ywrap,mtrr,[EMAIL PROTECTED] splash=silent,theme:mythtv

I have compiled vesa-tng into my kernel for framebuffer, and have NOT selected "Bootup Logo"

Sorry I can't help the original poster - I do not see the problem he is describing.

Chris
