Ok, now we're getting somewhere...

Have you updated the frontend configuration to point to 
the new ip address of the backend?  I think even if they 
are on the same machine, you need to do this.
Also, have you allowed mySQL access from anything 
other than 127.0.0.1?  There are some steps in the 
documentation about allowing access from something 
other than localhost.
