I had the same problem. I tried installing as root and that worked. For me, it was a permissions issue. It could be the same for you.

Yep. That's usually the case for *nix systems and Mozilla searchplugins/plugins/extensions/chrome/etc--normal users don't have permission to install to the system directories.

Installing as root will work, but if you (prudently) prefer not running Mozilla as root, just modify (permanently or temporarily) the permissions of the "searchplugins" directory under your install directory (or, may be /usr/lib/firefox*/searchplugins (assuming firefox, change to mozilla if using the suite)--depending on how your distro installs the package).

Or, you can download the two files and let root drop them into the searchplugins directory.
