front-end to be as little like a PC as possible.

Yeah, I don't need either the WiFi or the tuner either so any less
complexity is a good idea.

You and me both. Unfortunately, after the purchase of a new SUV a week before the skyrocket in gas prices is kind of hindering any new projects. Many people on the forum I listed above have made special boot splashes for this machine. Seems to be pretty cool.
