I found that setting mythfrontend to be suid-root made the stuttering go
away.  The stuttering that I was seeing also would happen on non-HD
recordings, but not as bad.  Generally, the audio would be fine, but the
video would stutter.

I also set those same config options that you listed, and am running
with an AMD 2500+ with xvmc enabled.
