I too have been using FreeRouting to autoroute Kicad projects with great results, so this issue concerns me, too.
I don't know if anyone has noticed this, but on 20 June, Alfons Wirtz posted on the FreeRouting site's forum the content of a message he had received from Dr Richard Stallman, president of the Free Software Foundation, offering for the Foundation to pay for a German lawyer to look at the case and give advice. Alfons further stated that he'd contacted the lawyer, and that he was, with help, willing to go on fighting Zuken. However, he's posted nothing since. (But we all know how long legal wheels may take to turn...) So, all *may* not be lost.
