Jennifer, Glad to hear the cots worked out for you! When I first started to doing nails full time....my left elbow used o get almost raw...couldn't figure out why...until one day one of my clients noticed that I always leaned on my left elbow \at the table....maybe the dust was still there I don't know...so she suggested I buy what is know as a gel wrist rest for the computer...I bought a small one (they come in several sizes and shapes) and placed it under my elbow and made sure I cleaned it off frequently...solved the problem and I have been using one ever since...for the last 16 years.... ps....I also clean my table after prepping...and then again after finish filing and then a final time after each client....with alcohol in a spray bottle. it only takes a minute...and an unorganized table drives me nuts... I think in the beginning I just wiped it off....

Pati, I went to Wal-Mart last night and bought the stocking stuffer type gloves- 2 pair for $1 I think. I wore one to bed last night. Applied the Diprolene and slathered Eucerin and this morning it was feeling a little bit better. Thanks for that info--I will check it out. My eczema does get to the point of cracking and bleeding. The one side of my hand looks like someone took a r azor and sliced me. THAT is a good cut. Usually they bleed from all the cracks. I am sure that the product is aggravating it, but I know it is not the cause of it. Today I am going to wrap the area in saran wrap and wear the cotton glove to do my clients. Even if I wear just the glove, the powders from filing will get t\hrough. I think it is spreading becuause I was wearing plastic/vinyl/latex gloves. Sheesh, I just cannot win. And I have my trusty bottle of liquid Benadryl!!! That is the reason that I stopped doing hair and started to do nails. My hands and fingers used to g et so bad that I had to take days off of work. My fingers used to swell up and crack so badly t hat I wouldn't be able to open my fingers sometimes scared that the skin would crack open and bleed. I finally went to this excellent dermatologist who told me I had A topic dermatitis. HE gave me a list of things that my hands couldn't come in contact with, of course chemicals was the first on the list. Along with a few creams he told me to soak my hands in warm water and this blue liquid which he charged me $30 for. This liquid was mineral oil with a blue dye in it to make it look pretty and expensive. I would soak in it until my fingers were soft enough to be able to open my fingers without them cracking. When I finished that pretty blue liquid I bought a bottle of mineral oil and it did exactly the same thing. It also made that flakey skin soft enough to be able to heal on its own without the use of other meds and creams. Another thing that helped me was Silicone glove from Avon. I know, I know..Yes I actually used Avon. I would apply it constantly to build up the layers and tried to not use soap if I could. I just want to bring this subject to the forefront. I have had eczema all my life. In my 20's I found out I had food alle rgies. I cut most of the foods out and the rashes subsided. Never went away complete ly but I had it under control. The past few weeks have been awful with this rash. It is all over both my hands. Just putting my hands in water makes the rash welt. Gloves? Well that is helping the rash spread. Saturday was the worst they have ever been. I was paying attention to where the clients held my hands and they are resting right on the area where the rash is. I am NOT going to say it out loud, but I am positive that the products are aggravating the eczema. Yesterday the rash began to spread up my wrist. The itch is driving me nuts. I am sipping liquid Benadryl to help control it. I think I may become addicted to it!!!! I had to go to the doctor today for this. She put me on Prednisone and the strongest topical steroid available in the US. I am going to run to Wal Mart to see if I can find some thin cotton gloves. I have a pair from Star Nail, but they are not good enough. I know that the chemicals did not cause this, but it is surely exacerbating the rash. I have never had it this bad, (Pati, I got your message on FB--- PLEASE know that this is NOTHING compared to what you went through--I am just "a-bitchin.") Anyway, just take precautions to help prevent getting skin rashes. Also, the doctor does not want me to wash all the time. Water is NOT good for the skin!!! Take care of your hands.
