As for CTS, I work full time at the Worker's Compensation Board of Alberta. I know each province has autonomous WCB's, but in Alberta if you have personal coverage, you would receive wage loss if your claim is accepted. However, I would caution you to ensure you get EMG studies done, and to make certain they show the compression in your wrists. I've seen countless claims where CTS surgery has been done with virtually no effect...and that typically happens when someone has not had EMG studies, at least not until after the surgery only to find the nerve compression was actually in the elbow region. If you have had these studies which do show compression of the ulnar nerve in the wrist, then you should have an excellent outcome. The main thing is to give yourself time to heal. And do physiotherapy!!! How well you heal is as individual as fingerprints, but I have found those individuals who are self-employed are pro-active and motivated to return to work sooner. That means doing the exercises they give you faithfully, physiotherapy and time to heal. I've seen people off work for 4-6 weeks...and I've seen people back to work in a week or two and do just fine. When you do return to work, try not gradually ease into it... Good luck with that and keep us posted!
