Lynnette,
Thanks for your quick reply.  I figured I would be waiting 'til next
never to talk to anyone from the state board.  As far as my township goes, we
have no restrictions or codes that I know of, but I will definately check that
before we begin.
Thanks for the info!
Lisa

Lisa,

My salon is not ten feet wide except at the window areas. Before you do any
renovations, check with your borough/township to be sure you are up to code
with them. Your bathroom may need to b ADA compliant, as well as your doorways
and parking. -- Unless it was already a commercial business.
I had our boro inspector tell me that my new powder room had to be ADA. I
fought it because this was already an existing business. Putting an ADA powder
room made no sense because the entrance was not even accessible by wheelchair.
(NO common sense or brains with most of those people)
Anyway, since you are starting from scratch, get their info first.
The PA state board will be pretty lenient with the depth as long as you have
the square footage.
As for them to get back to you-- good luck. They never reply to anything I
e-mail and forget the phone.
Please let me know what you do. This is the fun part of starting your own
salon!!
Buenos dias,
Lynnette

Subject: NailTech:: PA State Board salon regulations

Hi--
This question is for any tech in PA...Rhonda, Lynnette?  My husband is
about to start on my home salon.  It will be in the garage.  It is 24 x 40 but
he is going to remodel a section to give me about 200-250 square feet, not
counting the bathroom that is already there.  I emailed the state board to see
whether I can fax them a plan of how we are going to build it beforehand to see
if it meets requirements.  It's been over a week and I have not gotten a
response.  Would calling them be better?  I figured that they would reply more
quickly by email--but that hasn't been the case.
I know that it has to be a minimum of 10 feet wide.  There is an issue with
the garage door that he will have to angle the wall at the garage door to be
less than 10 feet then it will get wider again (10-12 feet) in the main salon
area.  Do you know if that is allowed or does the whole salon have to be a
minimum of 10 feet wide?   Just was hoping someone could tell me before I am
able to talk to the state board or is there a state board inspector I could
contact that may be able to help us?

Thanks a bunch!
