I have to say I wonder about this, Both Ways. Yes people legislate and
tax everything they can. BUT:

Up here in the land of Ice and Snow (Chicago) I see So Many young girls
who are Addicted to Tanning. I work with 2 who will tell you they can't
stop, they are addicted. They don't feel right if they don't Tan. One is a
senior in High School and family has money, tans when ever she wants. The
Other said she would take on another job to support her tanning if she had
to. At 17 and 21 the skin is showing "sign's" already! Mostly around the
eyes, and the older one is getting that leathery look to her skin. Both
girls started at about 14 years old. Both girls pay over $100 a month for
packages.

These are just the 2 I work with but I see so many young girls who are
the same. Yes it does make you feel better temporarily, yes your skin gets a
glowing tan. But are they old enough to understand what is actually
happening to their skin? The potential for cancer is real. When I was that
age I was " Young and Immortal" and I am sure they feel the same. It won't
happen to me. When they are 50 and have Skin Cancer will they wish their
mothers had not let them start? My daughter watched her college roommate
turn to leather, She finished college with Crows Feet! She also felt
addicted. My daughter will spray tan when she feels the need, but will never
go in a tanning booth again. She know her roommate will be saving her money
for the plastic surgeon.

Now I will admit to spending all summer every summer of my teen years on
the water in Virginia Beach, I even used a #5 sunscreen! Wow that was a lot
then. Now I use 50! But we had an Ozone Layer then. We had more protection!
How many of our generation are popping up with Skin Cancer? I did try
tanning (when I was younger) and it is a totally different feeling tan, and
there is no protection. I think there is no such thing as a "Healthy Tan"
anymore. It's a thing of the past.

I am also Old enough to remember watching TV Commercials saying "Sit
back, relax and have a cigarette, they are good for your nerves and will
make your day better!" But now we know. Will we be saying the same thing
about Tanning in 20 years? "I" feel these young girls, it is mostly girls
who tan, are Not Old Enough to make an informed decision that may effect the
rest of their lives. There are no limits put on them. Just as they feel the
pressure to starve themselves to fit an unrealistic body image, they feel
the need to be "Glowing Bronze" like those women on TV. But those women have
spray tan, they would not be caught dead in a tanning booth because it would
wreck their skin! Example? Bay Watch, Dancing with the Stars! All spray Tan!

As for the Dr note to tan? I know some youngsters who have Exeima (sp?)
who tan for FIVE MINUTES 2 times a week to help keep it under control. But
they are on the Older Milder beds, not the "get a full summer tan in 5
minutes Monster Bed." There are also "light boxes" for those who get winter
depression, which I think some of these addicted girls have. Self medicating
in a damaging way.

So I am done rambling and once again climb off my soap box.
