Our New Governor (wonder how long this one will last?) has stated he will
start taxing the "Service Industry" which includes Salon Services. I know
they started this in Ohio a few years back. We here in Cook County Illinois
already have the highest sales tax in the country. It's like 10 1/2 %. You
can't leave the county for cheaper sales tax because when you make a large
purchase (cars TV etc.) you have to give your zip code and you are taxed at
the higher level, the overage goes back to your county of origin!
If we get taxed 10% of services it may put some business under because
people will just not come. It makes a $40 pedicure $44 and there is no raise
in there for me. This industry will be in big trouble in IL, at least in
Cook County. (Chicago is in Cook county and all of our taxes go to support
the Graft in the City. We get no benefits from them)
