Well, if you just used the smaller foot baths for the shorter pedicures, would
you still get as much product all over the place? I only exfoliate to the knee
on my most expensive pedi anyway....
And... I am a messy marvin. Always have been. Our chair is a recliner (with
heat and massage, it's nice...) that I drape with a sheet for each client
anyway, and I use a bath towel under my foot bath, so between those two things
it seems to catch most of my mess... When I am done with the pedi, I just kind
of "wrap 'em up" with all the stuff in them. Clean chair and floor!!! I have to
wash everything anyway... and then I can just usually sweep at the end of the
day....

Ok, question for those of you who use this type of ped tub:

How do you use exfoliant on the client without it getting all over the dang
place with such a small tub?  Dang… I make such a mess doing pedicures.. I have
to sweep after every client!  But I am a “preventive maintenance” kind of
person…  I use one of those huge ped bowls that are made of plastic that I
ordered out of Canada .  They are beautiful and they look like marble.. but
they do have kick-backs:  heat escapes them really quickly so the water doesn’t
stay as warm as I want it to.  Hot stones will resolve that issue, but I am
trying to figure out a better way to keep from getting exfoliating scrubs all
over the place!

Any ideas?  I like the larger bowl because more of the client’s leg is over the
water and therefore catches the falling product…  but smaller footbaths do not
provide as much surface area to catch falling product so I was wonder how you
ladies handle this issue.  I really want a footbath with bubbles and heat and
stuff for my express and classic peds and use my larger bowl for my spa peds.
But I hate that using smaller footbaths makes such a mess!

So I am really curious as to how all of you handle this issue!
Thanx in advance!  And Happy Mother’s Day to all whom it applies!

Where I used to work we had the big spa tubs that were on wheels.  We ran the
tub and the OPI spa clean for 15 min after every client, then we used a deluted
solution of Spa Clean to spray the top, inside and outside of the tub and wipe
them down (some scrubs leave an oily residue like the one from OPI that smells
like raspberry).  every friday night we did a "bleach soak".  after the last
pedicure we cleaned as usual with "spa clean" then we ran bleach water through
the jets for 15 min and let sit over night.  drained it in the morning and ran
just plain water to make sure all the bleach was out.  where I work now we use
the little tubs and we soak them in bleach for 15 min.  I just recently
purchased the Belava pedicure system.  It has the liners that you throw out
after every client (I recycle them,  gotta do my part for environment).  I LOVE
IT!!!  and my clients love it too!!!  Even with the liners i still spray the
tub with Disenfect
from Tammy taylor just to make ME feel better.

Nicole,
I agree completely with your safety precaution measures.
The one thing we need to know is that the woman who died supposedly from the
pedicure was never proven by autopsy. The ONLY way that could be fact is if the
autopsy found it to be true. One of the women did not have an autopsy and the
other woman's autopsy did not conclude finding the pedicure to cause her death.
This information I found online.
Buenos dias,

Michelle,
In Texas we are required to use bleach once weekly, soak the tub overnite.  I
use a few different products, however, because I don't feel that once a week is
enough.  Food for thought:  say for instance your clients introduces some "BUG"
to your spa...then another client introduces yet another "bug", this is on,
say Tuesday and you haven't ran bleach for a week or two.  so then you have all
these "BUGS"  multiplying at a rate we  probably couldn't comprehend. So what
happens in the meantime??  I think doing  more, more frequently is the safest
approach to protect my clients.   I like to use bleach only because it complies
with state rules.  But I feel a deeper responsibility to my clients  and their
safety, so I use bleach...OPI spa complete (It is EPA registered) but also I
like the product made by Virox for the chelating effect ( ACCEL).  I just feel
like after the death in Texas by pedicure a few years back, you can never be too
careful.(granted, I understand the wman who passed has a compromised immune
system)
Anyway, Just food for thought
