A few days ago I sent out an email to about 14 clients that I haven't seen in a few weeks...along the lines of:
"Need some pampering? Hey Lady, it's been way too long since I last saw you...hope all is well with you? I've had some health challenges in the last couple of months, but I'm so grateful to be back in the salon full time, now. I'd love to just see you to catch up, but I'd really enjoy scheduling some "buff 'n' fluff" time with you, too! Just let me know...blah blah blah" I sent it BCC, so they didn't get the feeling it was a group email...and have had several responses saying "Thank you so much for the note, I miss you, I can't afford you right now, but will be back just as soon as I can...etc." Today I got an email from one saying she was so relieved to hear from me. A few weeks ago she had emailed me asking for an appointment, but since I never responded, thought I'd dumped her because she could only afford an "Xpress Pedi" (rather than the full one she used to get). WHAT??? OMG! I was so stunned! I just wrote her back with my sincere apologies for missing her email, and reassuring her that whatever level of service she needed I would cheerfully provide! (I think I told her that SHE could schedule time to clip a single nail as far as I'm concerned!!) Two lessons here... 1. it's a good idea to check in with clients you haven't heard from in a few weeks...you never know what the situation is! 2. Communications with our clients is tricky...be sure that your clients know that you will ALWAYS get back to them as soon as possible...and if you don't they should feel free to try again because emails, voice mails and texts can all go astray!
