Thanks for that Maggie. I was dealing with the end of a second day migraine and all I wanted to do was put my brush down and ask her to leave. She can go to Mr Wonderful Chop Shop. I really do not care!! LOL Buenos noches, Lynnette Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile

You already know you haven't been getting through to this chick, and you already know you don't really want to court her as a client... so just go for it. When I get to this place with someone I go for broke. You moms know the look, the "I'm not mad, I'm just really disappointed look"-- Thats the one. I just put my stuff down and sit back in my chair and put on my best "disappointed mom" look-- really helps if you can pull of that close-to-tears voice too-- and just sigh really deeply and say, "You know... I've really tried to explain to you the differences between gels and acrylics and about some of the problems the professional industry is facing when it comes to false advertising, incompetence and blatant swindling of customers who don't know the products well enough to protect themselves from getting screwed... obviously you don't believe that I'm a qualified professional, you don't believe that I know what I'm talking about and you think I'm making all this up just to get your money-- whatever, I don't care anymore. If you really think this other place you keep talking about is so great, then you should be going there. I don't have the time and energy to waste trying to educate someone who doesn't give a crap about the services she's paying for and doesn't respect herself enough to be educated about what you let someone put on your body and doesn't respect ME enough to listen to what I have to say... if you can't tell the difference between one type of salon and another, then, BY ALL MEANS, go to the cheap place or the more convenient place or what-the-*!&*-ever. Knock yourself out." Usually there's some wide-eyed disbelief, some "umm umm umm-ing" and some sort of back-peddling along the lines of, "Oh I didn't mean to insult you! I wasn't saying that you don't know what you're talking about..." blah blah blah. What it comes down to is these people A. Aren't really all that smart. B. Can't bear to admit that they've bought some chop-shop snake oil and C. have a really hard time assimiliating what you're telling them because they desperately want to believe that their sister/aunt/cousin/mother-in-law that goes to the other shop knows what they're talking about. But trust me, it's deeply satisfying to just tell it like it is and let them know that they are wasting your time and insulting you as a professional. Downright fun even. Give it a whirl. She came to me from a chop shop. When she called, she said she had gel nails on. OKAY, we have all had this and we KNOW that 99.9% of the chop shops do NOT do gels. Sure enough, she had MMA on her nails. Fast forward to two weeks ago. Two days after her last fill, she calls me and says she wants to talk about getting gels. We played phone tag for few days and finally I just left her a message that explained gels to her. Well, today she comes in and just would not let up on this gel thing. Her friend has gels. She goes to this place in Limerick and gets THE most beautiful gel nails. I tried to get more info on these gel nails and she said her friend KNOWS because she is a tech. (works at Lords and Ladies--so of COURSE she knows more than I do!! ) I ask her the name of the "salon" because that is usually a give away. USUALLY. No bashing here, because this is how it is here anyway. So tell me more about the gels. Well, they are more flexible than acrylic and you can only use non-acetone on them. REALLY?? Well, I know some of you think gel is more flexible. I find it to be quite hard, much harder than acrylic when I wear them. We may not agree on this, but this is how it is for ME. So I told her that you can use acetone on acrylic and gel unless it is a soakable gel. Is it soakable gel, because THEY are more flexible-- depending on the brand used. NO she said... it is GEL... This is true because her friend told her so. And she knows because she is a hairdresser. Well, she said a nailtech. So why does your friend not do her own nails? Well, because this guy is the best. I wanted to stop doing her nails and tell her to just go to this guy. EVERY time I do her nails, she comes back filed down quite a bit. Then she complains that they are too thick. Her nails are not thick when she leaves, but when she files them down, she is at the arch and YES they are thicker there. WTF??????????????? So I go to this website of the "salon" where her friend goes. GEEZUS.... it is a freaking chop shop. Sorry, but it is how I see it. They are in Limerick, where people have LOTS of $$$$ and can afford upscale prices. This is NOT a salon. It is a chop shop. No matter how you dress it up, it is a chop shop. I could not get through to her about this. I wanted to do P&W gels on her today, but she was late and I had to hustle to get her done before my next client. Plus I am on day two of a migraine. I told her that I ONLY use 100% acetone. If any tech tells you that you have to use non-acetone to remove polish from acrylic or gel because it causes lifting has NOT kept up with trends and education. I also told her about greenies not being MOLD or FUNGUS and she questioned me on that. Again, WTF??? I am half tempted to go to this place just to see what it is all about. OH, she also told me that they have big screen tv's and all this high tech stuff there. Yep, WINDOW DRESSING. No matter how you cut it, it is still a chop shop. The chop shop I went to long before I did nails is now ABSOLUTELY gorgeous. Cherry tables, beautiful chairs and waiting area. BUT, no matter what it looks like, it is still a chop shop. It is amazing what people see and what they want to believe. Honestly, I do not want this client to come back. So thanks for letting me vent this..... I still have the migraine!!!
