Just to provide an observation.....
We at Just for Toenails did a lot of research comparing SOGs, traditional gels
and p/l acrylics for use in podiatry offices for toenails i.e for toes that
have damage/very little toenail. etc. We found that SOGs of all brands vary in
flexibility and that for toenails they are inappropriate becausewhen the shoe
hits the end of the nail (in many normal gait movements), SOGs flex too much
and do not protect the end of the toe from stress - which is important for toes
with little nail plate. Conversely, traditional acrlics are too IN-flexible,
transfering all the stress back into the remaining nail or the nail bed during
normal gain, potentially causing stress damage. So, we chose to develop an
appropriate traditional gel with mid-flexibility. (www.prostheticnails.com) for
use in podiatry offices.

Transferring that to healthy toenails could mean that SOGs are OK, but that
traditional acrylics are probably too in-flexible unless it is built shorter
than the end of the end of the toe. So I recommend a mid-flexible gel, I can
hear it now....'acrylics have worked OK for me!' ....and I'm certain that is
true. Think, however...how would you know if it is not OK? Do you want to
produce damage, over time, for your client? Trust me, damaged toenails are VERY
 - and ugly but it doesn't show up for a long time! And we are not equiped as
nail technicians to see that it is happening.

Just to let you know, we sell our gels only to podiatrists so I am not
advertising here. Just making an observation/suggestion supported by research,
You will have to determine which gel of that type that is available to nail
technicians.

Lynnette, as long as they have a nail, it can be used. The problem is extending
he nail. Now I have put a form on when they have a chunk out of the side, and
f I make it thick enough it will stay. But have started repairing the natural
ail (chunk out) will ac, then apply the SOG. diana from indiana

Yes- it was the SOG that peeled off the acrylic.
I realize we cannot use the SOG to extend, but Deb said not as an overlay for
significant length. I have clients with very long natural nails that I would
love to do this on but want to be certain they will be fine.
I think I will do a FREEBIE for my regular clients for the first time to see
 how they fare.
 I appreciate all the input.

  Lynnette,
It really does depend on the wearer. But as a general rule SOG doesn't work
well for sculpting long nails. It's wonderful as an overlay on nails such as
Deb's. Some SOG's do have building properties to them BUT again not for
adding significant length, more so for sculpting an "active" length nail.
When you say you didn't have success with using SOG over ac because it
peeled...are you referring to SOG polish?

 Okay- then this is confusing.
*some companies say you can use their SOG over acrylic and gel. -- I tried
 this and it peeled.
*Deb-you have long nails and are wearing them with no problems?!?
*what would you consider significant length NOT good for the SOG?

SOG's are more flexible for sure.. some more than others..SOG's are not
really made to be an overlay for any significantlength..

I agree with Alice on this oneSimmy. I also read somewhere that the
soak off gel is more flexible than traditional gel and better for the
toes. sooooooooooooo easy!!! diana from indiana
